I started to post yesterday, but I didn't have much to say. Today was the second rehearsal for our play. It was the first for this group of student though. They did a wonderful job and there is so much more to think about and work with now that I have seen them act their character.
When I cast, because I am not really good, I have to guess and go with instinct on who could play what role. I can pray then guess, but I never know if I have done a good job of it, or just a cast that will learn a lot and do an ok play. After these first two rehearsal, I can see how well God answered those prayers. We have a great cast, and even through one rehearsal I can see character growth and a willingness to learn.
Now I have to be careful not to expect such progress each time. We have a lot to do and not a lot of time, and if we keep up this rate, we will be ok.
Why a Bean Patch? It is a great place to tell stories, share insights, be crazy, face your fear of bugs, as well as pick beans.

Last Monday Post
I had a nice system going - post on Monday's after teachers' meeting. However, next Monday, play rehearsals start. That means I will have to post on another day... not that I have been consistent on Monday posts anyway. Setting the time aside is really more for my benefit.
Today I had to make the switch from blogger to google. I did it with much grumbling.
I also realized I didn't post about Valentines' Day. I spent the day snowed in with my husband. I made him buffalo chicken salad for lunch (which he really likes) and he gave me a new CD! It was pleasant, but I didn't feel like celebrating much because that morning my grandmother had died. It was a melancholy day. I was very glad not to have to go back to school for the rest of the week because of the snow. Good times with my man and my books.
Now we are back to school schedule though. Mornings come way too soon. Ah well, only approximately 78 more days.

More Kid Stories
I remembered these after I got home.
Disney Princesses are a big thing in Kindergarten this year. One little girl with big brown eyes and darling curls especially loves them and even has brought her Disney princess book to school. Tuesday morning she was "reading" them. There was no one really listening to her; they were busy unpacking or reading their own books. But she still held up the book, just like I do, to show everyone the pictures and used her story telling voice to read the story. "Cinderella ran into the garden and began to cry. Then her fairy godmother appeared and said the magic words, (singing) Alikazoo, la bibbibity boo, la bibbity bobboity boo. Suddenly (turning the page for dramatic emphasis) a beautiful coach appeared with (counts) 6 horses and driver and other man...
This same little girl quotes Mater, the tow truck, regularly. It is hilarious to see this little princess speaking and using the facial expressions of an uneducated tow truck.
Another girl came to me the other day looking quite concerned. I asked what the problem was and she said, bending her ear just a little, "This ear bends more than the other one." I bent my ear in half and explained that it was supposed to bend and was made of cartilage, which is also at the tip of your nose and makes that bendy too. She opened her eyes very wide and said, "Oh" then looked relieved and went on with her work.
I love my kids...

Kids!
I am having thoughts for a longer blog, but they haven't come out yet, therefore, here are a few things from my students that brought me much laughter.
After bathroom time, one boy came back with water splashed all over him. I asked him what happened, and he said with great animation, "The water attacked me!" I later learned that the faucet pressure is rather forceful, even if you turn it on just a little.
This same child likes penguins. I had asked them all to draw a picture for me on the back of a test paper when they were done. He drew a picture of a trampoline. I then drew a picture on all their papers of a penguin. His happened to be on top of the trampoline. When he saw the picture, he first was distressed that there was a penguin on his trampoline. But then his face lit up and he started to laugh, "There's a penguin on my trampoline," while standing on one leg pretending to flip in the air like a penguin would on his trampoline.
We read "Chester the Worldly Pig" today, and some of my little girls got it. Others however were very disappointed that the pig didn't get eaten by the bear or by the farmer.
I wish I could catch the looks on their faces when they tell me these things. It is half the fun.

Cold Delay
I like the cold.
It means that I don't have to go to school as early.
It means that my students look really cute all bundled up.
It means I can drink hot chocolate which makes me happy, not that it has to be cold to drink hot chocolate, it just is better that way.
It means that I have to snuggle with my Southern man to keep him all warm.
It means ice is forming for me to skate on.
It means that the air is clear.
I like the cold.
I don't like the wind though. That makes the nice cold mean and nasty. It hits me with the cold, and it hurts even when nice things hit you. It takes my breath away and makes my lungs ache when I try to breath. Then I start coughing. I don't like the wind.
And guess what! It is only 4:00-ish, and there is a cold delay for tomorrow already!
In other news, I went skating for the first time in two years. It was fun. I was sore for the first bit, but I think I worked out the aches by the time we stopped. I was still able to do all the things I could before and that made me happy. I was afraid I had lost my ability to skate. I think it would be fun to skate every day.
The end.
