Adventures at School

Once upon a time, Lady Mommy helped with a small Mime Presentation at a school for the Christmas Program. This meant that she had to attend the final dress rehearsal. But Lady Mommy doesn't have a car. And Lady Mommy has Baby Eamon to care for. This led to a very unplanned and crazy day.

The Final Dress Rehearsal was from 9-11:30, but Sir Daddy leaves for work about an hour earlier. So he dropped Lady Mommy and Baby Eamon off at the venue of the practice. They played in the nursery and got ready for practice and changed Baby Eamon's diaper. (This is significant because at this point Lady Mommy realize she only had one diaper and was able to pick up a second from the nursery which saved everyone much discomfort later in the day.)

Finally the students arrived, and Sir Grampa arrived, and Lady Mommy was very busy painting faces. Baby Eamon did not like the white faces. They were scary and reminded him of the time when Lady Mommy turned into a scary white faces creature. He clung to Lady Mommy's knees and looked uncertainly about. But when they all left, Miss Megan took care of him and let him play with her necklace, while Mommy helped the students. Then finally Baby Eamon had Lady Mommy all to himself, but he had much more fun talking and making the students laugh and not pay attention.

During this time, Lady Mommy discovered that the Kindergarten Teacher was ill and absent, and that Sir Grampa was going to fill in for the Teacher even though he had a million and one other things he had to do. She also discovered that her day opened up and things she thought she was going to do, she wasn't going to do. So Lady Mommy became Kindergarten Teacher for the rest of the day and Baby Eamon became a very Great Distraction for the Kindergarten Students. But it was fun and they both mostly enjoyed the day. He slept through Phonics, ate like a big boy for lunch, played through recess, rest time, and math time, before he started taking everything out during seatwork and handwriting time. The Kindergarten Students were getting antsy at this time also, so Lady Mommy began to feel rather scattered. The Bus Monitor came early which didn't help matters, but all the students made it out the door and home to their parents.

Then Sir Grandpa drove Lady Mommy and Baby Eamon home and they both took long naps.

Update

Life has been crazy in our house! Between sickness and Christmas and such, we have been so busy!

Eamon is either teething or has a dreadful cold or both. Last Monday, he had a fever, and I feared an ear infection. Tuesday it was still around, so I called the doctors and went on Wednesday to get him checked out. In the meantime, I treated his ear with garlic olive oil. He didn't have an ear infection, but the runny nose has only gotten worse. Last night he cried piteously on and off from 12:30 to 3:00. We gave him some Ibuprofen and he finally fell asleep. During the day, he sometimes acts like his normal self, but then other times is so clingy and whiny; I think something must be wrong, but I can't figure out what.

Because my sister-in-law, who usually watches my Grandmother while my mother teaches, has morning sickness all the time, I have been watching Grandmother for the past two Wednesdays. I also watched her last Tuesday before my mother took us all out to her house to make Christmas cookies. She is such a sweet lady, but it is sometimes hard to get anything done with her around trying to help with Eamon. The trouble those two unknowingly get into! She tells him not to do things he is allowed to do, so he gets frustrated and goes to do things he knows he isn't allowed to do. I have to keep such a close eye on them both.

I have also been helping a small group of students with a mime/dance presentation to go along with a choir song for their Christmas program coming this Thursday. It has taken a bit of time and lots of coordinating rides to get me to rehearsal and home again. They did it for the first time in front of people today and they did really well. Just a few more days and a few more practices and it will be done.

In every spare moment, I have been trying to work on some doll dresses for a friend of mine's little girls. They should have been very easy to make, but I had some technical difficulties with the elastic, and kept making stupid mistakes. They are done now, and I am happy with them.

So that means I haven't been very good at blogging or such, but I am planning on writing the rest of the costume posts over Christmas so I can post them when I get home.

Advent

It would be great if I could post what we are doing every day for Advent, but I have a terrible feeling that I wouldn't be able to keep up with posting, and that I won't do something every day either. But here is what we have done so far.

Dec 1 - Hung the Advent Calendar and began opening the doors each morning. Re-organized our living room to make it more decoration friendly.
Dec 2 - Made an Advent "Wreath" by which I mean setting out the candles. There is no wreath of greens to go with it yet.
Dec 3 - Watched my Grandmother. Put together a little paper nativity scene that folds up like a book.
Dec 4 - Hung a string of lights and our stockings. Then shut three light bulbs in the door, so only half the string works.
Dec 5 - Bought a new string of lights, but didn't hang them. Bought ingredients for Christmas goodies. Looked at patterns for Christmas presents.
